Media Hypes Flu As an Epidemic
I’m obviously not making light of anyone getting sick at all. But has this society really gone so maddening, that an outbreak of the flu, which is occurring during – of all times – flu season, really worth headlines? All I have seen is that there is an epidemic of the flu all over the headlines. This week, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, declared a public health emergency. According to CBS New York:
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a public health emergency Saturday, as the flu epidemic rocked the nation and hospitals and urgent care centers saw huge crowds. The declaration allows pharmacists to administer flu shots to anyone between the ages of 6 months and 18 years.
Now notice the next line of the article:
“The majority of us get the flu, we feel miserable for a week and then we get better,” she said. O’Brien told WCBS 880’s Jim Smith the main aspect of Cuomo’s order opens up availability for children to get vaccinated. She added that the governor’s declaration will also raise awareness, and some more people will get the flu shot.
ITS NOT cause for panic! Meaning, we should not be making a bigger deal of it than it already is. Just make sure to get a flu shot, wash your hands, stay out of the cold, don’t go to work if you’re sick, and trying to lovingly stay away from other people that may be sick. Just be careful, and feel better if you have the flu… Don’t panic, and be careful if you’re elderly, have children, or have a immune system.
